Sigma 24-135mm EX series Aspherical IF zoom
Date Published: 6/19/06
The handy Sigma 24-135mm EX series Aspherical IF zoom lens covers the most often-used focal lengths from ultra-wide-angle 24mm out to 135mm medium telephoto.
It also has a very fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 at the shortest focal length, making it suitable to use for existing light interiors or outdoors at dusk situations when you don't want to use distracting flash. Thus, this one-zoom lens can replace the more conventional-range, and generally slower speed, zoom lenses typically supplied with today's SLR cameras.
Often you can purchase an SLR camera body only, and this lens would make an excellent single normal zoom range lens. As would be expected for the wide 5.6X zoom range and fast aperture, this lens is slightly bulkier and heavier than most normal zoom lenses supplied with SLR cameras.
It incorporates a special low dispersion glass and two aspherical lens elements to provide aberration corrections combined with superior image quality. It focuses down to an exceptionally close 20 inches at any focal length. Slow, precise, smooth zooming is manually done by turning a wide knurled ring near the camera body.
The flat black finish looks good on any SLR camera. It comes with a special wide-angle lens hood that does not vignette at the ultra wide focal lengths.
We used Sigma 24-135mm EX series Aspherical IF zoom lens with a Canon EOS A2 SLR and found the autofocusing to be swift, quiet, and accurate. Images produced were very sharp in detail from edge to edge of the frame at a variety of different focal lengths and lens-to-subject distances.
