Sierra Designs Washakie sleeping bag
Date Published: 5/16/06
The Sierra Designs Washakie is a relatively low-cost bag designed for comfort down to 0 degrees; it uses synthetic insulation but maintains a relatively light weight at just over 4 pounds.
The Polarguard 3D insulation, unlike goose down, maintains its insulating properties even when wet. The hood has differentiated drawcords for adjusting the hood and neck opening sizes. The hood also has an internal pocket that can be stuffed with clothes to form a pillow.
There is also a chest-positioned pocket for holding a headlamp, watch, or other small items needed during the night. There is a full-length zipper with a glow-in-the-dark locking slider, and anti-snag tape material runs along the zipper travel. The bag also features pad loops at the shoulders and hips that let you attach the bag to a sleeping pad so that they don't separate during the night. A stuff sack is included. The bag comes in regular and long sizes.
The Washakie is a no-frills bag designed to give good performance at a relatively low price. Its synthetic insulation makes it a good choice if wet conditions are ahead and moderate weight is not an issue.
