Sierra Designs Alpha three-season tent
Date Published: 5/16/06
The Sierra Designs Alpha is an impressive three-person convertible tent that is designed with versatility so it can be used in three or even four seasons.
This free-standing tent features a large canopy ceiling panel that protects the tent in extreme conditions, and it can be removed to reveal a mesh panel for fairer weather. In addition, some pole sections can be omitted if not needed for harsh conditions. Also, a large stash door can be removed and left behind to reduce carrying weight.
The tent uses three DAC Featherlite SL poles and "clip-locs" at pole intersection points for added strength. The full rainfly attaches to the poles and canopy with an integrated guypoint system that is said to increase strength. The fly has a vent, and the tent pitches with relatively steep walls to shed rain and snow. The vestibule has a window with taped seams. The floor is coated with polyurethane and has factory-taped seams for water protection.
Other features include reflective guyout loops, fabric treatment to help prevent growth of fungus and mildew, and non-wicking stake loops and fly attachments to minimize water intrusion. Inside, there are mesh pockets that are also waterproofed from the side walls. The package includes stuff sacks, stakes, guylines, and seam sealer.
With its removable ceiling panel, removable stash door, and removable pole sections, this is an extremely versatile tent. If your travels take you to diverse locations and conditions, the Sierra Designs Alpha would be an excellent choice.
