Shindaiwa T222 gas string trimmer
Date Published: 4/15/08
When it comes to engine power, the Shindaiwa T222 straight-shaft gas string trimmer is a strong performer. This model is designed for the serious homeowner and features a Shindaiwa-built, 23.9cc high-torque engine with a 4-bolt chrome-plated cylinder and single-ring piston. Other engine features include a double-counterweight crankshaft for outstanding durability and a one-piece electronic ignition for fast and easy starting. It all boils down to this: At 8,000 rpm (up to 10,000 rpm max), this unit performs exceptionally well, with cutting power that can easily tackle tall grass and tough weeds.
Another standout feature on the T222 is Shindaiwa's Speed-Feed trimmer head. One advantage that this innovative bump-feed-style head has over traditional bump-feed heads is that you can reload the line to the trimmer head in 30 seconds or less without having to dismantle a thing; by comparison, to load traditional bump-feed heads, you need to press in stiff tabs, unlock covers or even use tools. We find that the Speed-Feed to be a quick and easy reload -- just like threading a line through the eyes of two giant needles. Once the line is threaded through the trimmer head, simply turn the top of the head to load it onto the spool and you're back in business in record time.
This trimmer also scores high marks for its lightweight maneuverability and amazingly well balanced feel. We give it bonus points for its ergonomic comfort, which includes a well-cushioned throttle handle. Our only gripe has to do with the T222's switches; the choke switch isn't easy to spot and the directional icons on the on/off switch are a bit confusing.
The Shindaiwa T222 gas string trimmer has innovative features and all the performance of a professional model without the professional price.
Pros: High-torque engine, great performance and cutting power, innovative bump-feed-style head, lightweight maneuverability, well-balanced feel, ergonomic comfort
Cons: Choke switch hard to spot, directional icons on the on/off switch are a bit confusing
