Sharp Microwave Drawer KB-6015KS
Date Published: 5/6/05
The Sharp KB-6015KS Microwave Drawer is an innovative idea from Sharp Electronics. It serves up yet another option for where to place the microwave. Now you can have your microwave in a slide-out drawer under the counter or under the oven. It's the most recent alternative to building it into the wall or placing it over the range.
An appropriate choice for a new or remodeled kitchen plan, this model places the microwave oven at a new lower height. A safer alternative for children, this model prevents them from pulling hot foods down on themselves from an overhead microwave.
The fully featured unit is large enough to handle a 9x13-inch casserole dish with ease and offers a sensor that accurately automates the cooking of 11 food categories, including reheating and popcorn. It's fast, quick and easy and has a control lock to keep the really little ones out.
The trickiest part of getting used to this microwave is remembering to use the button to open the drawer. We made the mistake of trying to pull the drawer open. Lucky for us, we didn't break the latch -- at least not this time. If you go for this model, you'll need to instruct guests on how to open the unit in order to avoid damage. Our guess is that the next generation of this unit will allow you to pull the drawer open and not rely on this silly button.
A unique idea, Sharp's innovative Microwave Drawer KB-6015KS makes sense if you have an immediate need for a microwave placed low in your kitchen. If you can wait a bit, however, we think you'll be seeing a model with an improved latch just down the road.
Pros: Only built-in microwave designed for low height, may be useful for those with disabilities, safer option for kids, expensive
Cons: Opens by pushbutton, pulling it open risks breaking latch
