Sharp AL-1642CS Desktop Copier
Date Published: 8/29/06
Laser-print quality is the biggest benefit from Sharp's AL-1642CS desktop copier. This unit has a few other high-end features, but not quite as many as we'd expect to see in a $600 desktop copier.
The AL-1642CS can make copies at speeds up to 16 ppm in draft mode, and it offers a top resolution of 600x600 dpi, which is standard for a laser desktop copier.
You can use a 30-sheet automatic document feeder, which is a handy feature for larger copy jobs, or the glass-top surface for copying. The AL-1642CS also has two 250-sheet paper trays, meaning you'll rarely run out of paper. This unit can resize the original document at between 25 and 400 percent, and it offers easy dual-sided copying.
You can use the AL-1642CS as a makeshift printer or scanner, but it has no networking capabilities.
Finally, the AL-1642CS only offers a 1-year limited warranty, which is less than similarly priced desktop copiers offer (usually 3 years limited warranty).
Pros: Laser-quality copies
Cons: High price, needs more high-end features
Warranty
1 year, limited
