Seiko SLP 420
Date Published: 10/27/06
The Seiko Smart Label Printer (SLP) 420 differs from most label writers, creating high-quality printouts on pre-cut labels (rather than using label tape). It doesn't work as a stand-alone label writer and has no keyboard.
Seiko designed the SLP 420 to work with a Windows or Macintosh computer, making it ideal for printing badges and other labels that need to include graphics and photos. The SLP 420 can print at a resolution of 203 dpi, which is much higher than most label writers.
You can print labels at sizes ranging from 0.375-2.125 inches in width and 1.5-7.5 inches in length with the SLP 420. (However, you are limited to the 20-25 pre-cut label sizes that Seiko offers.) The SLP 420 can print labels at speeds up to 3- 4 seconds per label. As with most label writers, the SLP 420 uses direct thermal printing technology, meaning you don't need to purchase additional inks or ribbons.
The SLP 420 makes use of an included AC adapter; it cannot run from batteries.
Pros: High-quality printouts are good for graphics and photos
Cons: Cannot work as a stand-alone unit, requires a computer
