Samsung's LTP266W brings multimedia functionality to a 26-inch LCD TV that gets bonus points for style and performance. The wide-format TFT screen is set into a modern silver and black cabinet, with speakers located below the screen and control buttons elegantly placed along the side. All inputs are on the rear panel, and the removable base takes up very little room thanks to its minimalist design.

The picture is lively and bright, with a resolution of 1,280X768, a contrast ratio of 600:1, and 500 cd/m2 of brightness. This TV is HD-ready, only requiring the addition of an external HD tuner for full high-definition viewing. Even without a separate tuner, all images are rich and detailed, and the presence of a 3-D Y/C digital comb filter eliminates dot crawl and rainbow effects. The horizontal and vertical viewing angle is 170 degrees, so whether the screen is mounted on the wall (separate hardware required) or positioned on a table or counter, it can be comfortably viewed from anywhere in a room.

The internal audio system consists of two stereo speakers producing a total of 10 watts of audio output. The sound system can be set to maintain a particular audio level, and it can also create a surround sound effect using only the built-in speakers. The LTP266W is equipped with split-screen and picture-in-picture viewing when using the PC, making it easy to monitor a TV program while surfing the internet or playing a computer game. Other convenience features include a sleep timer, an on/off timer, a full-screen picture freeze, closed captions and parental controls.

Additional components will most likely be added to this set, and plenty of inputs are provided to accommodate them. The rear panel contains an RF input, S-video input, audio/video input, two sets of component video inputs, a DVI interface, a PC input with audio, a headphone jack and a pre-amplified subwoofer output for use with an external audio system. The universal remote control is a standard-size silver model with a comfortable button layout for managing the TV's many features.
