Samsung LN-T4665F 46-inch LCD HDTV

Samsung's step-up LCD series may not be fit for a king, but it certainly was made with movie buffs--if not movie moguls--in mind. The set features 1080p Full HD resolution (1,920x1,080) and is loaded with plenty of advanced features to satisfy the most serious videophile in mind. Of course, as might be expected, this set carries a slightly higher price point, but if you're looking for a set with advanced features, then it's worth every penny.
Among those extras is the fact that the Samsung LN-T4665F is compatible with Samsung's auto wall mount system, which lets you physically adjust your TV vertically and horizontally with only the remote. Should you need to turn it slightly, you can do so without even missing a second of the game, or a moment of your favorite movie. Additionally, we liked that the set's base also allows a swivel of up to 15 degrees on each side, but with this you'll have to actually get up to adjust the angle. From any seat in the room, you'll see a very good picture with Samsung's LN-T4665F. With 15000:1 contrast ratio, this set has a picture that is extremely bright with excellent black levels. The colors are very lifelike, and this is among the first of Samsung's TVs offering the HDMI-CEC 1.3 connections for the latest generation of high definition content.
The HDMI 1.3 compatible inputs allow the use of x.v.Color, but at this time there is a limited number of devices supporting this new technology--just a Sony HD-camcorder and their latest Blu-ray player (we still have to wait for compatible discs too). Likewise, it seems unlikely that HD-DVD will get on-board with x.v.Color at this time, and there are no other 1.3 devices coming down the pipe for the while. But if you're looking the latest bells and whistles, the LN-T4665F certainly has the bell that rings the loudest.
Of course, as this is a 1080p set, it can easily handle 1080i and 1080p sources, while other content is scaled to fit accordingly. The results are typically very good, but the picture comes up a little short with standard definition content. The LN-T4665F will let you make quick picture adjustments, plus let you tweak to your heart's content. This model offers numerous picture adjustments, including three picture modes that are independent by input. From here you can adjust brightness, contrast and even backlight control to meet the exact conditions of the room. There are five presets for color temperature, along with a full set of color temperature controls as well, which can further the ability to adjust the sets to absolute perfection.
We had one serious complaint about the set's glossy screen. While it looks very nice design-wise, and really complements the glossy piano black finish, it is a bit distracting with any serious ambient light. One reason to go with LCD is that most panels don't reflect light as much as plasma or rear-projection sets, but the LN-T4665F does do a bit of reflecting. While this isn't exactly as bad as plasma, it detracts enough. Thus this is the set you will want to use in a darkened, or even dedicated, home theater setup.
We were much more impressed with this model's connectivity options. The LN-T4665F features a total of three HDMI connections, including two in the rear of the set along with a side input. This model further features two rear component inputs, one rear A/V input with composite and S-Video input and VGA PC input, as well as twin RF inputs for antenna and coaxial cable. In addition to the side HDMI input, there are side composite/S-Video inputs, headphone output (a feature we also appreciate on TVs of any size) and even a USB 2.0 port for use with digital photos, as well as MP3 playback from a USB thumb drive.
The "hidden" bottom speakers are nearly invisible from the front, but provide SRS TruSurround XT to simulate the multi-channel audio experience. These are adequate for TV programming and some sporting events, but for the full cinematic experience this set really deserves a full surround sound system, especially if you're going to use it with HD-DVD or Blu-ray movies.
You can take control of those A/V devices with the slender wand-styled remote, which commands up to four additional components. The remote is only semi-illuminated, which is a tad annoying (especially considering that this set is best viewed in darkened conditions), but it works well enough that we really can't complain. It automatically skips any inactive inputs on the TV, making toggling between devices a snap. The Samsung LN-T4665F has a very impressive design, and other than a screen that is too shiny, it is set that will serve your viewing needs well for movies, sports, video games and more.
Pros: Three HDMI inputs, stylish looking design, very good black levels.
Cons: No CableCard slot, screen reflects a bit more light than some other LCD sets
