Samsung HP-P5031 50-inch plasma TV

Date Published: 10/26/07

Samsung's HP-P5031 is a gorgeous 50-inch plasma TV that is ready for high-definition viewing. The wide-format flat panel, with its black bezel and removable speakers, can be wall-mounted with an optional kit or used on a tabletop with the included silver stand.

A contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and brightness of 1,000 cd/m2 combine with a resolution of 1,366X768 to deliver an exceptionally sharp, rich picture. Contrast and detail are superb, and a 3-D Y/C digital comb filter eliminates dot crawl and rainbow effects that might otherwise interfere. Standard analog signals are intensified through line doubling. The wide-format screen is ideal for HDTV and movies, and a choice of four picture formats are available for fitting standard content to the 16:9 aspect ratio screen. Color temperature can be adjusted to meet user preferences, and four picture presets make switching the screen settings a simple matter.

The twin stereo speakers are rated at 15 watts of audio output per channel, and they can be used to create a 3-D effect. With PC compatibility and twin-tuner picture-in-picture and split-screen viewing, users can monitor a TV program while playing a computer game or even surfing the Internet. In addition to the PC (VGA) connection, the HP-P5031 has a full range of input and output options, ensuring that a DVD player and home theater receiver can be accommodated. The rear panel has an RF input, a pair of composite video inputs, an S-video input, a DVI interface, an input for computer audio, a composite video output, and two speaker outputs. The universal remote control has an LCD display to indicate which component is currently on deck, as well as a full array of buttons for managing associated components.
