The 67-inch Samsung HL-R6768W DLP HDTV is a high-performance model that delivers one of the best pictures on the market.

This unit comes complete with a CableCARD slot, PC connectivity, and digital conversion of all input types to 1,920X1,080 display.

The wide-format screen has a dark gray border that floats above a slim silver panel containing speakers and the power button, which sounds an ethereal tune when the set is turned on or off. An optional stand is available.

Even analog images look rich and highly detailed after up-conversion. The extremely high contrast ratio of as much as 10,000:1 is virtually unheard of, and the picture never needs to be recalibrated, refocused or adjusted. A 3-D Y/C digital comb filter eliminates rainbow effects and dot crawl for crystal-clear images, and film looks as good on the TV screen as it did in the theater thanks to 3:2 pulldown conversion. Unlike plasma, DLP is not prone to burn-in of static images, and the lamp that powers the picture lasts for about 5,000 hours before needing to be replaced.

Picture-in-picture features include split-screen viewing without any need for an additional tuner, as twin tuners are integrated into the HL-R6768W. The stereo system has a pair of speakers rated at 15 watts of audio output per channel, and it can simulate surround sound. Five presets are available to optimize the audio reproduction for sports, movies, music, speech and one user-defined custom setting. The HL-R6768W can function as a huge computer monitor thanks to the PC input. Five screen format modes are available, and the internal memory saves the format last used on each of the inputs so there is no need to readjust each time the TV switches to the DVD player or game console.

Additional inputs and outputs make connecting to a home theater system quite easy. The rear panel holds two RF inputs, a PC input with audio, two S-video inputs, two composite video inputs, two HDMI digital-to-digital connections and two HD component video inputs, along with two FireWire (IEEE 1394) inputs, a digital audio output and an AnyNet connection for use with other Samsung components. The universal remote offers quick access to all TV functions and control over just about any associated component.
