Samsung HL-R5667W 56-inch DLP HDTV

Date Published: 10/26/07

The Samsung HL-R5667W is a 56-inch widescreen HDTV that is a compact and generously featured performer.

The control buttons are located along one side of the dark gray-framed cabinet, with easy-access audio/video/S-video inputs on the other side panel and stereo speakers below the screen.

All images are displayed at 1,280X720p, with a contrast ratio of up to 2,500:1 ensuring crisp images. A 3-D Y/C digital comb filter eliminates dot crawl and rainbow effects, and the DLP engine operates silently and never requires convergence tuning. Film is adapted for video viewing using 3:2 pulldown conversion, which eliminates uneven movement even during action scenes.

The Samsung color wheel uses seven color segments to create very lifelike images. The audio system features a total of 30 watts of audio output, so the stereo experience is full-bodied and realistic.

The HL-R5667W is equipped with NTSC and ATSC tuners for both standard and HD content without an additional receiver, a CableCARD slot to eliminate the need for a cable box, and a PC input for displaying computer content.

Picture-in-picture functions are also available, including split-screen viewing of two full-height images with no additional tuner required. Channels and video inputs can be labeled, and the set has a sleep timer to automatically shut off the TV after a given interval.

The HL-R5667W is well suited for use with numerous components, as it has connections for up to eight other devices. In addition to the side inputs, the rear panel contains two RF inputs, the PC audio and video inputs, two S-video inputs, two audio/video inputs, two component video inputs, an HDMI interface, two IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interfaces, and an AnyNet mini jack for use with another Samsung component.

Audio/video outputs and an optical digital audio output are also available for linking to an external sound system. The universal remote control is equipped for use with multiple associated components.

The DLP engine of the Samsung HL-R5667W delivers a bright, sharp picture without requiring the bulky cabinet of a CRT. In fact, this model is lighter than many 27-inch CRT TVs.
