Salter's 1004 Electronic Kitchen Scale features an attractive stainless-steel platform, which provides 56 square inches of space for placing individual items, such as fruits or vegetables, directly on the scale or for holding a separate dish or bowl. The smooth stainless-steel surface has a glossy finish and wipes clean easily with a damp cloth. The scale itself has a narrow profile, which is less than 1 inch thick so you can easily tuck the scale away in a drawer or on a cupboard shelf when not in use.

There are two soft touch buttons on the top front edge. One turns the unit on and resets the display to zero; the other changes the display from pounds/ounces to kilograms/grams. The Salter Electronic Kitchen Scale also has an add-and-weigh feature, which lets you zero the display before adding another ingredient. This feature lets you use almost any bowl or dish and return the readout to zero before proceeding.

The 1.5-inch digital readout displays the weight to the nearest 1/8 ounce. The scale requires two 3V lithium batteries (included) and has an auto-shutoff feature that turns the power off if the scale is left unused for more than one minute (reading 0) or three minutes (reading the same weight).
