This mechanical scale has a large front face with ounce/pound and Kg/gram markings clearly displayed. The scale is designed for use with the supplied 2-quart plastic measuring bowl; it can also be used with an alternate bowl or plate, though that is not recommended.

Before using the scale for the first time, you need to set the pointer to zero by turning the rotating knob on the rear of the scale. Once that is done, you can place any foods up to 11 pounds in the bowl and get an accurate weight reading in pounds/ounces or kilograms/grams. The scale mechanism never requires maintenance, and because you can readjust the pointer any time to zero, you'll always get an accurate reading.
