Saeco Talea Ring Plus Super-Automatic Espresso/Cappuccino Maker
Date Published: 8/15/07
The Saeco Talea Ring Plus is a super-automatic machine that takes all of the work out of making a cup of espresso coffee, leaving just the enjoyment of the finished beverage.
The Ring Plus is big, but it is still smaller than we would have expected for a super-automatic machine. It measures 12-3/5 inches wide by about 16-3/10 inches deep, and it stands 14-1/2 inches tall. Curved edges give the unit a contemporary, space-saving appearance. A combination of silver and charcoal-gray panels is complemented by accents of black and gleaming stainless-steel for a bright, stylish appearance.
The Ring Plus incorporates all of the necessary elements into the base, so there are no separate porta filters, sieves, scoops or tamping devices to deal with. The unit's built-in components include a ceramic disc grinder, a removable 57-ounce water tank, a removable grounds container and drip tray, a motorized cup tray, a cup warming area, a rapid steam frothing wand and an adjustable dispensing head.
Literally every option on the Ring Plus is adjustable. You pick the beverage (coffee, espresso, long coffee or hot water only), the coffee intensity (strong, medium or mild), the cup size, the coffee temperature and the quantity and fineness of the coffee grind (fine, medium or coarse). You can even adjust the height of the drip tray, depending on the type of cup or mug you are using.
The touch-sensitive controls are effortless and respond instantly, so you need to watch what you're pressing or you can accidentally begin a brew process. The smaller function buttons control the steam, hot water, grounds and menu functions, giving you complete control over the entire process.
For cappuccinos, lattes, and other milk-based beverages, the steam function works with the frothing wand to dispense a plentiful supply of steam through its swiveling spout. When used with the hot water button, the wand can also deliver heated water for tea or other instant beverages. An optional accessory for use with the Ring Plus is Saeco's Milk Island, a free-standing milk container that attaches to the main base and auto-froths milk by delivering a steady amount of steam into the milk container. Once the milk has been frothed, it can be poured or spooned into cups to make cappuccino.
This is one of the more expensive espresso machines on the market, but once you see all of the fancy program options and customizable settings, you'll understand why. The Saeco Talea Ring Plus is truly a coffee-making dream machine.
