Royal Upright Steam Vacuum RY7910

Date Published: 4/4/08

The Royal Upright Steam Vacuum RY7910 cleans thoroughly and has several features that enhance its value. The Royal's tank system includes three separate tanks. These view-through tanks include a clean water tank, a dirty water collection tank and a small tank to hold cleaning solution. We especially like this system because the cleaning solution is dispensed automatically into the clean water. This convenient dispenser eliminates the need to measure and pour (and sometimes spill) cleaning solution. Better yet, the dispenser can be turned off via a small rocker switch on the handle. This means the hot tap water in the clean water tank can be used sans soap for rinsing carpets. We like the ability to reduce residue left behind by the cleaning solution.

Like many steam vacuums, the Royal Upright Steam Vacuum has two rotating brushes located on the main vacuum head. These brushes rotate in opposite directions to clean multiple sides of the carpet fibers. Just as importantly, these brushes can be turned off when using the upholstery attachment so they do not damage carpets. In addition to the upholstery tool, there is a hose attachment that nests on the back of the Royal Upright Steam Vacuum. The hose attaches to the both the clean water and the dirty water tanks, and the assembly is relatively straightforward. We weren't "wowed" by the upholstery tool, but found it performed adequately. It wasn't without a bit of trial and error, however. We discovered there is a flap inside the dirty water collection tank that must be closed to increase the tool's suction.

We have only a couple of minor complaints about the Royal Upright Steam Vacuum, and they center more on its design than its performance. There isn't a way to adjust the vacuum head's height for various types of carpets. Nor is there a way to adjust the amount of cleaning solution dispensed into the clean water tank; it is either "on" or "off". These design details aside, the Royal Upright Steam Vacuum is lightweight, easy to use, cleans well and, at a reasonable price, is one we highly recommend.

Pros: Clean water rinse, separate cleaning solution dispenser
Cons: Not height adjustable

Warranty
3 year, limited
