Remington PowerMower MPS6017A electric mower

Date Published: 3/25/08

Give your gas can to your neighbor -- you won't need it if you pick up the Remington PowerMower MPS6017A cordless electric mower. This is a great alternative to gas-powered mowers; the 60-volt battery gives you the power you need at the turn of a key without the loud noise, hassles or noxious fumes of fuel. Its eco-friendly power source means that you'll have no more worries about flooding the engine or polluting the air with harmful carbon emissions.

The look of the PowerMower MPS6017A is sleek and the design is lightweight, so it handles maneuvering up hills and around yard obstacles with ease. We also like that it comes equipped with large 9-inch rear wheels, which give better traction and maneuverability on uneven ground. Another nice touch is the padded grip handle, which provides added comfort. The removable 60-volt battery provides up to 60 minutes of clean-energy mowing; that's more than enough time to mow an average-sized lawn. Mowing in the cordless mode gives you free range to roam without the need for an extension cord. Once you're done mowing, recharge the battery by plugging the mower into an electrical outlet.

If you need to tackle a larger yard, you're probably resigned to the fact that you'll need to have a spare battery charged and ready to go. This is not necessarily the case with the PowerMower MPS6017A; this revolutionary machine is the first cordless mower designed to operate by way of either a rechargeable battery or 110-volt outlet. If you're faced with a drained battery in the midst of a long lawn job, you can simply plug it in and keep on mowing. (The mower has a built-in extension cord retainer to prevent accidental disconnection of the power cord during use.) What's more, Remington's patented power select technology also gives you a boost of power using combined power sources from both the 60-volt battery and 110-volt outlet; we find this to be a great option for tackling tall grass and other tough mowing conditions, such as clearing yard debris or leaves. Just plug the mower in and turn the power selection dial to the 120-volt Boost mode for the same cutting power as a gas mower, only better; unlike a gas mower, the PowerMower's blade tip speed is controlled by an electronic circuit when in Boost mode, so the blade tip speed is prevented from slowing down.

The 8-position single-lever deck height adjuster is a timesaving feature that allows you to quickly and easily adjust the cutting height on all four wheels at once, from 1.5 to 3.5 inches. The mower is equipped with 3-in-1 mowing capability and comes with a grass collection bag and mulch plug. (The side-discharge tube is sold separately.)

For the power and performance of a gas mower with the clean energy source of a cordless mower, the Remington PowerMower MPS6017A is the best in its class.

Pros: Removable 60-volt battery, quiet operation, easy to use, 9-inch rear wheels, padded grip handle, corded option, Boost mode, 8-position single-lever deck height adjuster, 3-in-1 mowing capability
Cons: Doesn't bag as well as a gas mower
