Reiker Room Conditioner RRC12
Date Published: 6/28/05
The Reiker Room Conditioner RRC12 is the one of the better-designed heater/ceiling fan units we've tested. The heater is mounted at the ceiling, above the fan blades, where it recaptures warm air that has collected there and pushes it back to where the ceiling fan can redistribute throughout the room.
Despite the heater's placement, this unit maintains a low profile, making it suitable for low ceilings. Independent testers show that this rig can save on heating costs (versus conventional space heaters) because of the effective way it distributes warm air.
The fan is sized to handle enclosed rooms up to 20x20 feet. We also appreciate that the heater unit looks like part of the fan--not an add-on the way heaters do on other heater-fan models. The Reiker unit doesn't have a lot of frills and clutter and is at home in many decorating schemes.
The Reiker fan's heater component contains four ceramic heating elements that use between 1485 watts and 492 watts, typically beginning at the former and running at the latter once the preset room temperature has been reached. The motor is heavy-duty and larger than most ceiling fan motors. As a testament to its durability, Reiker claims that the impeller can run continuously for 50,000 hours.
Controlled by a remote, the RRC12 lets you select the desired temperature level and fan speed. It also allows independent operation of the energy efficient 30-watt fluorescent light (which produces the equivalent of a 150-watt incandescent light bulb).
In the summer, use the RRC12 in the fan-only mode for cooling. This product runs on normal household current and can replace an existing non-heater type fan without additional wiring. Installation can take as little as 20 or 30 minutes. Air filters for the heater are washable.
