REI Traverse daypack
Date Published: 2/23/06
The REI Traverse is a reasonably large-capacity daypack with a good feature set for carrying a diverse collection of items. In particular, in addition to its main compartment, it provides four large pockets for keeping smaller items organized. The main compartment is accessed through a zippered clamshell; this is the best way to access a smaller pack such as this. Inside, an internal sleeve can be used to hold a hydration reservoir (sold separately); there are two drinking tube ports, one on each pack side. There is a top pocket that acts like an organizer with slots for credit cards, a zippered pocket for change, and a key clip. Another front pocket has mesh pockets for essential items. Two zippered side pockets have bellows that expand to accept water bottles. The pack uses a polyurethane framesheet and one aluminum stay for support. The shoulder straps are foam padded and curved and also have a sternum strap for added stability. There is also a padded hip belt that can be tucked away when not needed; in addition, the belt has a small pocket on the outside. Other features include a daisy chain for lashing gear, a tuck-away ice axe loop, and side compression straps. The pack comes in three different color schemes. The REI Traverse is a good technical daypack with the features that you will need for day hikes or trips to school.
