When it comes to light-duty cleanups around the house or in the car, the ReadiVac 35145 handheld 14.4-volt cordless wet/dry vac can take on the mess. We like this grab-and-go cordless tool for sucking up everything from spilled cereal and tracked-in mud, to dirty lampshades, dust bunnies and dead bugs. And three attachments add greater cleaning versatility. The crevice tool works well for hard-to-reach areas. The carpet and upholstery tool is made of a rubber-type material and is very effective. And the dusting brush is great for tabletops and bookshelves, and can make dusty lampshades look like new.

We like the design: sleek and attractive with an easy-grip handle and a see-through dust cup that's easy to empty. Stats for the maximum dust cup capacity is listed at 5 cups. But don't take those stats to heart. The dust cup clearly holds much less in the way of debris and quickly loses suction power if allowed to get too full. Emptying the dust cup is easy -- just press the release button and remove. Then remove the filter, empty the dust from the cup and tap out the debris. The reusable paper-type filter performs better when cleaned with warm soapy water at the end of each use. The company also recommends that the filter be replaced every 6 to 9 months.

The charging cradle can sit on a tabletop or mounted on a wall to save space. The cradle includes a charge indicator light and a slot for storing the crevice tool, but there is no onboard storage for the other two tools. We gave the unit a downgrade for the dust cup, which at times fell off when applying any downward pressure when using the vacuum. The dust cup hooks onto a lip that doesn't protrude enough to keep it fully secure.

For occasional cleanups in a handheld cordless option, the ReadiVac 35145 14.4-volt wet/dry vacuum is handy to have around.
