RCA L32W11 32-inch LCD TV
Date Published: 10/26/07
RCA's 32-inch L32W11 is a budget-price LCD TV that can display high-definition and standard TV, as well as computer content. The slender and attractive monitor is framed in black with dark gray trim, and it comes with a detachable tilt stand. The L32W11 can be wall mounted with the thoughtfully included bracket, something most flat-screen TVs require you to purchase separately. Two jack covers protect the rear connection jacks and keep attached cables and wires in a compact arrangement. Front-panel controls are lined along the lower edge of the monitor, and a headphone jack is easy to reach on the side.
The TFT LCD display has a 16:9 aspect ratio that is ideal for HDTV and movies, and it is viewable at 170-degree angles both vertically and horizontally. The picture resolution is 1,366X768, but a separate HD receiver is required for full high-definition viewing. Even standard-definition content looks sharp and lively on the L32W11, and movies are adjusted using 3:2 pulldown conversion. A 5-line digital comb filter eliminates dot crawl for crisp contrast, and video noise reduction is employed to further enhance the picture.
The side-mounted stereo speakers are rated at 8 watts of output per channel, so the audio is a bit underpowered. Simulated surround sound is available, and there are six audio presets. RCA provides an unusual on-screen calendar, and other useful options include channel labeling, sleep and on-timers and parental V-chip controls. The L32W11 allows you to listen to TV audio while viewing PC content, which will be an attractive feature for habitual multitaskers.
The rear inputs provide a range of possibilities for connecting associated components, with one RF input, three composite video inputs, one S-video input, one component video input, one DVI input, one VGA 15-pin D-sub (PC) input with audio, one set of fixed audio outputs and one composite video output. The L32W11's remote control is small and compact, but it is not a universal model like those provided with many competing LCD TVs.
Pros: Low price, crisp picture, wall-mount bracket included
Cons: Underpowered audio output, non-universal remote control, requires external HD receiver
