Proctor Silex 4 Quart Oval Slow Cooker 33140
Date Published: 2/26/07
The Proctor Silex 4 Quart Oval Slow Cooker 33140 is a basic function, no-nonsense machine.
This unit's small capacity makes it a good choice for singles or smaller households. The 4-quart stoneware crock is well suited to preparing soups, stews, meat, vegetable and one-dish casserole recipes.
This model has a removable white stoneware dish, which nests inside a 9x11-inch oval base. The base is also white, embellished with a series of colorful tiles, decorated with watercolor prints of vegetables.
A single dial control switch set in the front of the cooker has settings for off, low, high and keep warm. Recipes can be assembled in the morning and set to cook all day on low or assembled late afternoon and set to cook for four or more hours on high. The keep warm setting is a manual setting, which can be used to keep a cooked meal warm. Keep warm is not designed as a way to reheat foods.
We loved the clean look of the white stoneware and the delicate watercolor prints. Both the crock and the base have side handles to facilitate lifting. The unit also comes with a clear glass lid, which sits loosely atop the crock during use.
The unit heats from the sides, providing a wraparound layer of heat. On high heat, mixtures in the crock will reach a gentle simmer so careful monitoring is recommended. The stoneware crock is also microwave safe and oven safe for added versatility.
This unit does not have a lot of bells and whistles, but for the money, it is a good value.
