Precor 9.33

Date Published: 1/30/08

The Precor 9.33 is a high-end, gym-quality treadmill that is packed with features, but because of its tremendously high price tag, it is far from being an option for those on a budget. The 9.33 is essentially a home version of Precor's commercial, health club treadmills; the construction is solid and the Ground Effects Cushioning System -- Precor's cushioning suspension system -- delivers a reduced impact workout.

In addition to a handy QuickStart feature, the Precor 9.33 offers 16 programmed workouts, including 5k, 10k and 1-mile courses, three walking and three running courses, and two custom and manual, random, interval, weight-loss and heart-rate workouts; this should be more than enough to keep your workouts varied and interesting over the long term. The running deck is reversible and heart rate monitoring is obtained either via handgrip sensors or the included wireless telemetry chest strap.

We find the console easy to read and the programs quickly accessible. By entering your personal user ID, you can even retrieve statistics such as your personal best times; this is another great way to stay motivated and challenge yourself each time you exercise. The console displays speed, incline, time, calories burned, distance, heart rate, pace, profile, percentage of your workout completed, a workout summary and SmartRate, a feature that tracks heart rate in relation to target zones for either fat burning or cardio training.

Precor also offers a number of safety features with the 9.33. The treadmill can be locked using a password to ensure that young children, for example, can't use the machine without adult supervision. A magnetic safety key is also included; when activated, the safety key will immediately turn off the power to the treadmill.

The 9.33 is equipped with a powerful 3-continuous-duty-horsepower motor that delivers a maximum speed of 12mph and a maximum incline of 15 percent, adjustable at 0.5 percent increments. There are many other treadmills that deliver better value, but if you are serious about your running and have a budget to absorb the price tag, the Precor 9.33 is an excellent-quality home treadmill.

Pros: Powerful motor, wide running belt, excellent cushioning, high-quality features and performance
Cons: Very expensive
