Poulan Wild Thing P4018WT gas chain saw
Date Published: 4/23/07
The Poulan Wild Thing P4018WT gas chain saw uses too much plastic construction that, though lightweight, is not as durable as materials used in several other saws. It should, however, satisfy the needs of some homeowners with minimal wood cutting chores and its less expensive than several other models.
A 40 cc two-cycle high-speed gas engine provides power for the Poulan Wild Thing. This saw features an 18-inch steel bar, primer bulb for starting and an automatic chain oiler that provides continuous lubrication to the chain.
We found the Wild Thing P4018WT took several pulls before it would start. And the cord tended to jam in its plastic housing. Once up and running, the Wild Thing seemed to provide enough power for general wood cutting chores and it cut cleanly. But the bar required frequent adjusting during use. Because it runs on gas, The Wild Thing is entirely portable. Our biggest concern is that it won't stand up long under normal wood cutting conditions. There's just too much plastic on it and the overall construction does not feel sturdy as compared to several other brands.
The Wild Thing offers a color matched bar and chain replacement system for foolproof choosing of replacement parts. You can tell instantly if a chain will fit a certain bar. A storage and carrying case is included with the price. This chain saw comes assembled, but you may need to tighten the support bolts, and you will need to add the fluids.
The Poulan Wild Thing P4018WT may serve the homeowner who wants a gas saw around for occasional light use, but it is not constructed solidly enough for serious chores. The Wild Thing is widely available, including at big-box stores.
