Weed Eater Twist 'N Edge 711896 cordless string trimmer
Date Published: 3/12/08
The Weed Eater Twist 'N Edge 711896 cordless string trimmer comes with a surprising twist and an affordable price tag. The unit is actually two tools in one; just press a button and flip the lower portion of the unit over and it quickly converts from a trimmer to an edger. What's more, getting a clean edge is no problem thanks to a built-in edger guide wheel that provides extra stability.
The motor is equipped with a high-capacity 12-volt cordless power pack that is powerful enough for standard trimming and edging. The automatic line feed system is a user-friendly feature; a small length of cutting line is advanced each time the trimmer is started.
We find that the Twist 'N Edge's rotation speed and single-line feed do not cut particularly efficiently, since it has only a single string whacking the grass as opposed to two strings on opposite ends of the spool. For light trimming and edging, however, it gets the job done.
Other features of the Twist 'N Edge that we like include a shoulder strap and an ergonomic handle design with an adjustable assist D-Handle that can easily be moved to a position that accommodates the user. The shaft length is also adjustable, though it has a tendency to pull out of its socket, especially when we adjust the shaft to a longer length.
This unit features a 10-inch-wide cutting swath, so it is best suited to small to standard edging and trimming chores. The battery is built right in, so you can hang the trimmer in the auto charge wall bracket and recharge the battery at the same time. At 11.75 pounds, this cordless unit is among the heftiest of the models we tested for its power and size; despite its weight, however, we find this unit to be easy to handle and easy to use.
When it comes to light-duty trimming and edging chores, the Poulan Weed Eater Twist 'N Edge Cordless String Trimmer 711896 does a fine job at a very affordable price.
