Polk Audio RM40 home theater speaker system
Date Published: 7/6/06
Polk Audio's RM40 surround speaker system is a stunning way to complete a home theater, for both the eyes and the ears. This is a beautiful system, and it has the sound to match the looks.
The main front satellites are Polk's RM40 anodized aluminum towers, which have a curved design that softens the look in any decor. These speakers use a pair of 4-1/2-inch midrange drivers and a single 1-inch silk/polymer composite dome tweeter.
The towers have Polk's Power Port bass vents hidden under the grills, producing a very full and natural response rated at 55Hz to 26,000Hz. The center channel uses the same configuration in a horizontal alignment, and it includes a convenient cradle that allows the precise aiming of the sound whether the speaker is above or below the monitor.
The rear satellites use the same tweeter as the front speakers, as well as dual 3-1/4-inch drivers, giving the system a seamless transition across the soundstage. Additional satellites can be purchased separately to create a 6.1 or 7.1 system.
The RM40 package is completed by Polk's PSW505 subwoofer, which employs a 12-inch driver in a slot-loaded port bass cabinet and is powered by a 300-watt amplifier.
This is an excellent speaker array to blend with a high-end audio/video system. While all of the components are available separately, the Polk Audio RM40 is an excellent example of the sum being greater than its parts.
