Polk Audio RM6750 home theater speaker system
Date Published: 8/25/06
The Polk Audio RM6750 home theater speaker system provides a perfect introduction to five-channel surround sound. This affordable system utilizes technology found in some of Polk's much higher-priced speaker systems, and the results are predictably rewarding. Available in either black or titanium finishes, the RM6750 is even expandable, with additional satellites available to make this into a six- or seven-channel system.
The four satellite speakers all use the same components in magnetically shielded polymer cabinets, with Polk's PowerPort technology for an improved low-frequency response. Each satellite has a 3-1/4-inch driver and a 1/2-inch silk dome tweeter, while the center channel adds a second 3-1/4-inch driver for dialogue clarity. Unlike higher-end systems with five-way binding posts, the RM6750 speakers have spring-clip speaker wire connectors.
The compact subwoofer uses an 8-inch long-throw driver mounted in a slot-vented cabinet. A 50-watt (average) amplifier provides the power. The subwoofer is more than just a bare-bones model, with features such as an active crossover, independent volume control, a phase switch and an automatic on/off sensor.
The overall frequency response of the RM6750 system is 40Hz to 24,000Hz, with a sensitivity of 89dB. The recommended power is 20 watts to 100 watts per channel. The affordable Polk Audio RM6750 package is ideal for a small living room or home theater space, especially when you want an accurate sound but don't need deafening volume levels.
Pros: Good sound quality, handy subwoofer features
Cons: Pricey for a starter system, spring-clip connectors
