Polk Audio RM20 home theater speaker system
Date Published: 8/13/08
The Polk Audio RM20 is an impressive package. This home theater speaker system uses matching two-way, three-driver satellites for the front and center channels. These speakers provide a full, rich sound that you might not expect from their compact size.
The front and center speakers use a pair of 3-1/2-inch polymer midrange drivers and a 3/4-inch silk/polymer dome tweeter. The rear speakers use one of the 3-1/2-inch midrange drivers, as well as the same 3/4-inch dome tweeter. All of the cabinets have a PowerPort for increased impact. The subwoofer has a 100-watt (average) amplifier powering a 10-inch woofer, all set in a slot-loaded enclosure for a deep, musical sound. There are line- and speaker-level inputs, in addition to a dedicated LFE input.
The satellite and center-channel cabinets are made of anodized aluminum and have an attractive pewter finish, and they are all magnetically shielded. The front left and right speakers come with short speaker stands, while the center channel has a swiveling cradle that lets you properly aim the speaker toward your listening position.
The overall frequency response of the RM20 system is 28Hz to 24,000Hz, with an 8-ohm impedance. The recommended power handling is 20 watts to 150 watts per channel, and the overall sensitivity is 89 dB. The Polk RM20 home theater speaker system delivers a big sound from its small components, and it would be ideal for a high-quality home theater located in a relatively small space.
