As the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and the Polk Audio LSi25 stereo speakers are a prime example. These speakers produce an absolutely exquisite sound, and they are ideal for audiophiles who wish to hear every detail in the high-resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats. Available in either cherry or ebony wood finishes, the LSi25 speakers are floor-standing towers that come with detachable carpet spikes for secure placement on any surface.
Each LSi25 has a pair of 5-1/4-inch dynamic balance drivers with specially designed polypropylene cones that are light, yet strong and responsive. These drivers are positioned in cast aluminum baskets that are rigid for an impactful sound. The single 1-inch tweeter uses a ring radiator diaphragm and a high-frequency waveguide, both designed to give the LSi25 speakers a soaring high-frequency performance with brilliant clarity.
On the other side of the frequency spectrum, the LSi25 speakers have an amazing low-end performance, due to the built-in powered subwoofer. Each tower has a 10-inch subwoofer driver powered by a 150-watt (average) amplifier built right into the speaker cabinet. There is also a downward-firing PowerPort, which produces tight and solid bass.
The overall frequency response of the LSi25 speakers is 20Hz to 27,000Hz, with a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. The sensitivity is 88dB, and the recommended amplifier power is 20 watts to 300 watts per channel. The LSi25 speakers use gold-plated five-way binding posts, and the subwoofer has both line-level and LFE inputs, as well as a line-level output. The speakers are magnetically shielded for placement close to a television monitor.
The MSRP of $2,999.95 is per pair. Although quite pricey, the LSi25 stereo speakers are truly extraordinary, producing the natural, musical sound you expect from top-end Polk Audio speakers.
Pros: Reference-quality sound, built-in subwoofers, beautiful cabinets
