Polaroid PZ1710 35mm camera

Date Published: 7/22/08

The Polaroid PZ1710 is a value-priced 35mm fixed-focus film camera. The body of the camera has a bit thicker front to back since the lens does not fully retract when it is off. The modest 1.6X range 35-57mm fixed-focus power-zoom lens does let you get a slightly larger image from the same subject distance than normal, however.

There is but one set of operating controls on the camera, all clustered around the shutter release button. Move one lever from lock to auto to switch the camera on, move it a bit further to get flash fill anytime. Two buttons activate the rather slow power zoom.

The Polaroid PZ1710 has just a few extra features, about what you would expect at this bargain price. The silver-colored body has bulges on the right front and back for easy gripping and holding. The small viewfinder is relatively bright, and a green LED lights up to let you know when the flash is charged and ready. The fixed-focus lens produces decent quality images of subjects from 5 feet to infinity at different focal lengths, and the built-in flash covered the field evenly. The flash range is a moderate 4.9-9.8 feet with ISO 100 film and a bit more with ISO 400.

The Polaroid PZ1710, offers powered auto wind, rewind, and midroll rewind when needed.
