Polaroid izone 200 instant-print camera

Date Published: 6/20/06

The latest version of the popular izone line of Polaroid instant-print cameras, the Polaroid izone 200, is directed toward the teen market. It produces small 1.4x0.95-inch stamp-size color prints that are popular with this age group.

A packet of 12 frames of film is available with sticky backing (about $7) suitable for affixing most anyplace to personalize items, or film is available with non-sticky backs (about $6). This camera is considerably smaller (30 percent) and lighter than previous models, so it's easier to carry around.

It has a stylish white and blue sparkle hard plastic case. The camera is a bit thicker than compact 35mm camera bodies, but is quite easy to hold and carry with the wide wrist strap that comes with the camera. The small viewfinder is very bright. There is just one rotary control on the back; it switches the camera on and adjusts for lighting conditions by choosing a sun, cloud or house symbol for indoors so the flash will fire. After each exposure the control switches off to save the batteries.

A large shutter release button is on the top. A film pull-tab protrudes below the camera, when it is smoothly pulled out the print is ejected through a slot on the lower right end of the body then self develops without need for timing. The sharp focus range is extremely wide (2 feet to infinity) for a fixed-focus lens.

The tiny prints produced by the Polaroid izone 200 instant-print camera are colorful and sharply detailed, but since they are so small, they are best suited for pictures of nearby people or objects rather than distant landscape subjects.
