Polaroid IDF-1030 Digital Picture Frame
Date Published: 6/24/08
Although the Polaroid IDF-1030 digital picture frame provides a large screen and a few good features, it probably doesn't offer quite enough value for its $200 suggested retail price.
The IDF-1030's resolution is about average, and with a 10-2/5-inch screen, we'd like to see sharper images. On the plus side, the IDF-1030 offers above-average contrast and brightness, and the overall image quality is good.
The add-on features with the IDF-1030 offer mixed results. In its favor, this unit can play MP3 audio through its built-in speakers, and it is compatible with six memory card formats. Polaroid even includes a handy remote control. This is an easy-to-use digital picture frame, even if it doesn't offer many advanced playback options.
Unfortunately, this frame doesn't offer battery power, so it must be connected to a power outlet via the included AC adapter. The IDF-1030 also lacks internal memory, so you must have a memory card inserted at all times. Although memory cards are relatively inexpensive, internal memory is still a feature we'd expect for a $200 product.
Although the IDF-1030 performed well for us, there have been reports of reliability issues. The durability becomes magnified when you consider Polaroid includes a limited warranty period of only 90 days.
If you want high image quality and more than the basic features for controlling playback, it's probably better to look elsewhere. However, if you're after a large display screen above all else, the Polaroid IDF-1030 digital picture frame provides respectable resolution and just enough features to be worth consideration.
Pros: Very large screen, supports a variety of memory card formats, easy to use, built-in speakers for music, good brightness
Cons: Somewhat pricey, resolution isn't impressive, no internal memory or battery, some reports of reliability issues
Warranty
90 days, parts and labor
