PNY Verto GeForce 7950 GT Video Card
Date Published: 5/15/08
PNY is a respected video card manufacturer that uses NVIDIA GeForce cores in its consumer bundles. The new Verto GeForce 7950 GT is based on one of NVIDIA's fastest video cards, and it delivers stunning 3-D gaming performance.
The 7950 GT features a core clock speed of 550MHz and an effective memory clock speed of 1.4GHz, thanks in large part to the speedy DDR3 memory. PNY includes 512MB of dedicated video memory, which gives the 7950 GT more room to offload graphics data. This core speed and memory combination is one of the fastest around, and it lets you keep all the bells and whistles turned on in your favorite games and still get excellent frame rates.
This video card also incorporates NVIDIA's SLI technology, so you can pair it with another video card for enhanced performance on motherboards with twin PCI Express x16 slots. Of course, this doubles the price on what is already a fairly expensive piece of hardware, but it's good to know that you can really beef up performance if you want.
Installing the 7950 GT is fairly straightforward. You'll have to get inside your system, naturally, but unlike some other video cards, the single-wide 7950 GT doesn't take up more than its allotted space. However, it does require a direct connection from your power supply, and having at least a 350-watt power supply is recommended.
The 7950 GT features twin DVI outputs, letting you send a signal to two digital displays. Digital-to-analog adapters are available if you don't have a digital monitor. There's also an HDTV output, so you can use this card as part of your PC home theater system.
PNY offers a 2-year limited warranty on the 7950 GT. The warranty requires you to fill out the video card registration form, of course, but it's an impressive length of coverage that you won't find on many competing models.
The 7950 GT retails for $350, but we were able to find it at a variety of vendors for under $300, making it a competitively priced current-generation card. If you're looking to get your hands on an NVIDIA GeForce 7 series board, the PNY Verto GeForce 7950 GT is a good one to pick.
Pros: Great power core and memory, excellent outputs, doesn't take up extra space inside your computer, long warranty
