Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS Car CD Player
Date Published: 6/12/06
The Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS car CD player can do something that many other players can't. In addition to playing standard CD and CD-R/RW, including discs with MP3 and WMA files, the DEH-P880PRS is compatible with iTunes AAC files burned to disc. Thus, your iTunes library can be transferred to disc and taken in the car (provided you follow applicable copyright laws, of course).
On the other hand, you don't need to transfer all of your digital music to disc to enjoy it in the car, as the DEH-P880PRS has an auxiliary input jack on the front panel for connecting a portable digital audio player. In addition, the DEH-P880PRS is universally satellite radio-ready, so all you have to do is add an XM or Sirius Satellite Radio tuner and antenna. This head unit can also control an external DVD or CD changer. Not to be overlooked is the digital AM/FM tuner, which has presets for 24 stations.
The DEH-P880PRS has a MOSFET amplifier that provides up to 22 watts (average) into four channels. The audio can be fine-tuned with the 16-band graphic equalizer, which has five presets and two customizable settings. To take the guesswork out of configuration, the DEH-P880PRS comes with a microphone and automatic calibration system that adjusts equalizer and time alignment. High-pass and low-pass crossovers ensure that the proper signal frequencies go to the speakers and subwoofer, and the subwoofer low-pass filter has an adjustable slope up to 18dB/octave. There are high-voltage (5-volt) pre-amp outputs for adding external amplifiers.
The motorized faceplate of the DEH-P880PRS hides the CD slot, and it's removable for added security. The OEL display is monochromatic (black and white), but it is clear and easy to read. The DEH-P880PRS is ideal for anyone who has transferred an entire music library to iTunes.
