A member of Pioneer's top-shelf Premier series, the DEH-P780MP is an entertaining CD head unit. It features a full-color OEL display that you can fully customize, and it comes complete with graphics software for creating your own display content. The images can even be animated. This gorgeous faceplate is motorized, folding back to reveal the CD slot.

The DEH-P780MP is impressive in the audio department as well. It can play CD and CD-R/RW, including discs with MP3 and WMA files. Better yet, the DEH-P780MP can play AAC files that you've burned to disc. Keep in mind that you can't burn DRM copy-protected songs downloaded from iTunes.

If you don't want to bother putting your digital audio files on disc, use the auxiliary input on the DEH-P780MP's front panel to connect a portable digital audio player. This unit is satellite radio-ready, so you can connect either an XM or Sirius tuner. You can also employ Pioneer's optional iPod adapter to power, control and play an iPod directly from the front panel of the DEH-P780MP. The unit even has changer controls. Last but not least, the built-in digital AM/FM tuner has presets for 18 FM and 6 AM stations.

The DEH-P780MP has an automatic gain control to smooth out extreme highs and lows, and a disc memory will display the names of up to 48 discs. CD Text is displayed when available. The DEH-P780MP's internal MOSFET amplifier provides up to 50 watts peak or 22 watts average into four channels, and it includes three sets of pre-amp outputs for connecting external amplifiers. The sound can be customized with the 16-band graphic equalizer, which includes five preset curves and two user-configured custom settings. There are high-pass and low-pass crossovers, and the low-pass filter has a three-position slope selector up to 18dB/octave.

With its excellent performance and AAC compatibility, the DEH-P780MP car CD player proves that it isn't just another pretty face.
