A member of Pioneer's top-shelf Premier series, the CDX-P686 is a smart way to add disc changer capabilities to your current car stereo system. The CDX-P686 is a six-disc magazine-style changer, and it connects directly to compatible Pioneer head units via the Pioneer IP Bus network.

While it can play audio CD and recordable CD-R/RW, the CDX-P686 is not able to play MP3 or WMA files burned to disc. On the plus side, the CDX-P686 can display CD Text information, and it has a clever memory system that remembers titles of the last 100 discs played. It will even remember a programmed playlist, provided you've created one. The CDX-P686's repeat mode is selectable between a single track, a single disc or the entire magazine.

For optimal performance in the often-noisy environment inside a vehicle, the CDX-P686 has automatic gain control that smoothes out the dynamics, allowing softer music passages to be heard over road noise. The frequency response is 5Hz to 20,000Hz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 92dB. The CDX-P686 can be mounted at a variety of angles, so you can place it in a location that works best for you.

The CDX-P686 is compatible with the CD-V60 Voice Commander (provided the connected head unit is also compatible), which allows the unit to be operated by vocal commands. While this isn't standard equipment, it still raises the changer's coolness factor.
