Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi THX Select A/V Receiver

Date Published: 5/12/08

The Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi is a home theater receiver that covers all the bases. The THX Select VSX-74TXVi offers 140 watts into seven channels, and it has integrated decoding for the standard five-channel formats as well as more advanced formats such as Dolby Digital EX, DTS ES and DTS Neo 6, in addition to Dolby Pro Logic IIx.

The VSX-74TXVi has a plug-and-play connection for XM Satellite Radio, so all you need is an XM Passport (or other plug-and-play tuner), an antenna and a paid subscription. This A/V receiver also has an iPod connection that, in combination with an on-screen display, allows you to operate your digital audio player with the included learning remote control.

The VSX-74TXVi has multiroom capabilities, with the ability to power a home theater speaker system in one room and a stereo pair in another, with both speaker sets playing different audio sources. To make fine-tuning the sound a snap, Pioneer's MCACC system automatically calibrates speaker levels and time delays to optimize your system to your ideal listening position.

The connectivity of the VSX-74TXVi is extraordinary. For starters, the VSX-74TXVi has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output, so you can use this receiver as command center connecting a digital television, DVD player (both -Audio and -Video), SACD player and other digital components. In addition, there are seven composite video inputs and three outputs, five S-video inputs and three outputs and three component video inputs and one output. On the audio side, the VSX-74TXVi has a USB input to connect with a computer, allowing you to stream digital music files and internet radio. There is also a total of seven digital audio inputs, including a front-panel optical input, as well as four analog audio inputs and a discrete eight-channel input for a DVD-Audio or SACD player.

In addition to the excellent sound, this home theater receiver is compatible with just about every source imaginable. The Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi truly is ready for anything.
