The Pioneer DVH-P5000MP is a terrific foundation for a rear-seat mobile theater. Although it only has a DVD/CD player and lacks a monitor, this unit will admirably serve as the heart of a mobile system.

For those who want true theater sound on the go, the DVH-P5000MP has an optical digital output for connection to an optional DTS and Dolby Digital decoder. The system has two video outputs for a pair of monitors. The DVH-P5000MP can even play the radio in the front seats while the video soundtrack plays in the rear.

In addition to DVD, the DVH-P5000MP can handle audio CD and MP3 files on CD-R/RW. Navigating MP3 discs is relatively easy with the sharp and clear display. The entire faceplate is detachable for security, and it folds down to insert a disc, providing more real estate for display elements.

The DVH-P5000MP has a three-band parametric equalizer to customize playback sound, along with Easy EQ presets. It has controls for a CD changer, TV tuner, and XM Satellite Radio (optional tuners are necessary). There is also an auxiliary input to add a portable device such as an MP3 player. The system has an integrated 50-watt amplifier into four channels. The DVH-P5000MP is a wonderful way to keep backseat passengers happy, and the driver even happier.
