Philips PSS110 MP3 player boom box
Date Published: 1/7/08
The folks at Philips are a clever bunch, as shown by the PSS110 MP3 boom box. Philips actually calls the PSS110 a portable MP3 player, and although this unit may be a bit too large to use during exercise, it is ideal for a desktop or to take along to outdoor events and activities.
It contains a 256MB memory for MP3 and WMA files, and it features small stereo speakers that produce a big sound. Listeners can also use headphones for a private jam session.
The 256MB of storage will hold about eight hours of music, or up to 120 WMA songs. The five-line display makes it easy to navigate through music files, which are loaded into the player through a USB 1.1 port. If that's not enough, the system can switch over to the FM tuner for more listening choices. Note that there is no AM tuner in the PSS110.
Although a small and sleek player, the PSS110 features XSL Acoustics to give the speakers a full, rich sound with more bass than might be expected. There are five preset equalization curves designed to enhance Classic, Hip Hop, Jazz, Pop, or Rock. The PSS110 has an alarm clock feature that makes this an excellent travel partner, and the internal rechargeable battery will power the unit for up to 10 hours of playback.
The Philips PSS110 represents a fine new way to take music off the computer and out into the world.
