The Pelonis Disc Furnace V HC-461 is probably not something you'd want to plunk down in the middle of your bedroom. It comes in utilitarian black and the styling it seems is from the 1950s. It is, however, a high output heater that's ideal for a garage or workshop--or for emergencies when your primary heating system is on the blink and you need heat in a hurry.

Five honeycomb ceramic discs are made of an electrically conductive ceramic. The ceramic discs can heat up to a maximum temperature of about 380 degrees Fahrenheit. Air is heated as it is blown through the holes in the honeycombs.

The HC-461 model has updated digital temperature read-out and electronic thermostat control. The latter means that the unit gradually tapers heat output as it reaches the temperature you've set on the thermostat, producing a more even heat.

Maximum continuous amperage draw is 12.5 amps, so the Disc Furnace V will not trip a 15-amp circuit breaker if you don't have other appliances going on the circuit at the same time. The outer housing (except for the front grill) is cool to the touch. There is an automatic shutoff switch should the unit get knocked over.

The Pelonis Disc Furnace V HC-461 heater is well built, with a rugged tubular housing and a heavy-duty ball bearing fan motor. The Disc Furnace V comes with a filter to prevent dust from being drawn into the heating elements.
