Pelonis Digital Oil Filled Heater HO-158E

Date Published: 1/29/08

The Pelonis entry into the oil-filled radiator category, the HO-158E, is a good heater for supplementing the main heat source in any room of the house.

As with others of its ilk, heating elements heat mineral that's encased in fin shaped tubes. The fins then radiate the heat to objects and people in your living space.

This model runs on a maximum of 1500 watts and delivers 5200 Btu at its top setting. The unit also includes a clock, digital timer, and overheat protection.

The timer allows you to set two different on/off cycles. For example, you can program it to turn on for when you wake up and turn off when you leave for work, turn on again for when you arrive home and off again when you go to bed.

Casters allow you to roll the heater to wherever you need heat, and a safety cover prevents people and pets from accidentally touching the hot fin tops.

The main advantages of the Pelonis HO-158E are that you get quiet operation, the heater doesn't dry out the air as much as fan-driven units, and there are fewer mechanical parts that can malfunction. The disadvantage is that it takes a little longer to feel the heat and that it's not suitable for rooms with large windows (because much of the heat is simply radiated to the outside).
