Some Xbox 360 users who play for extended periods of time have complained of their console overheating. More and more video game console accessories on the market are addressing this issue, such as Pelican Accessories Xbox 360 Fan Stand.

This accessory actually blows cool air through the Xbox 360, so Pelican says it will keep your console cooler than devices that draw warm air out. But since it's actively blowing air into the 360, you need to be careful where you place it - we'd recommend not having it sit on shag carpet or in a corner full of dust bunnies.

The Fan Stand is quite easy to set up. You just plug the video game console accessory into a USB port on your 360 and then set the console vertically into the Fan Stand. Since the Xbox 360 has a limited number of USB ports, Pelican designed this USB plug with a pass-through port, so you can still have a WiFi adapter or other video game console accessory plugged into the same port.

The Fan Stand gets its power via the USB cable, but there's no automatic on and off--you have to manually turn the Fan Stand off when you're done gaming and the switch is inconveniently located on the back. You also can't use this video game console accessory in the horizontal position very easily, so if you house your Xbox 360 within an entertainment center, it's not the best cooler for your 360.

In addition to cooling your console, the Fan Stand also stabilizes your 360 in the vertical position. You can also store other items such as game cases or your Xbox 360 remote in the Fan Stand, which adds even more stability to the console's position. (The console still gets warm, so you want to be careful what you store in direct contact with it.)

Pelican offers a lengthy five-year warranty on the Fan Stand, so you know that the device is covered for the long haul. If you're concerned at all about your Xbox 360 overheating, this $20 video game console accessory is a worthwhile investment.
Despite a couple of design issues, we found the Pelican Accessories Xbox 360 Fan Stand to be a useful video game console accessory.
