Panasonic TC-32LX600 32-inch LCD HDTV
Date Published: 3/31/08
Panasonic's TC-32LX600 is a step up from the TC-32LX60, providing good performance and an expanded feature list. This 32-inch HDTV features a slim LCD flat-panel display set on a detachable pedestal stand, and its wide-format screen is perfect for watching DVD and HD programming. Stereo speakers are built in below the screen, contributing to the relatively small footprint. The side of the monitor holds a headphone jack and a set of composite video and S-video inputs, which are handy for quickly connecting a camcorder or video game console.
Images spring to life on the TC-32LX600's LCD screen, with lively colors and crisp edges. A number of image-enhancing functions are employed to create a realistic picture, including Panasonic's Active Light Control and Active Gamma/Contrast Control. All content is displayed at 768p on the 1,366X768 screen, and a motion-adaptive 3-D Y/C digital comb filter reduces rainbow effects and dot crawl. The viewing angle is especially broad at 178 degrees, so any seat in the room is a good one.
The stereo speakers are compact but still manage to deliver clear treble and bass tones, and they can simulate surround sound. Other convenience features include an adjustable sleep timer, closed captions and V-chip parental controls. The built-in NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners make it possible for the TC-32LX600 to display digital and analog content from over-the-air and cable sources (check with your cable provider about QAM compatibility), although we would have liked to see a CableCARD slot.
In addition to the side-panel inputs, the rear panel of the TC-32LX600 has two composite video inputs, one S-video input, one component video input and two HDMI inputs. A set of audio outputs is also available for linking external speakers. The universal remote control is small enough to fit comfortably in your hand. In the midsize LCD HDTV market, the TC-32LX600 has a lot to offer in terms of performance and aesthetic appeal.
Pros: Attractive cabinet, realistic picture with plenty of detail
Cons: No computer input, no CableCARD slot, connection selection is somewhat lacking
