Panasonic TC-23LX60 23-Inch HD-Ready LCD TV
Date Published: 10/26/07
The Panasonic TC-23LX60 is a smart choice for a small LCD TV, especially if you already have an HD receiver. This HD-ready set is light and compact, and the included tilt/swivel stand detaches if you want to mount the monitor on the wall.
The native resolution is 1,366X768, and the contrast ratio is up to 3000:1, so the picture is crisp and well detailed, with bright whites and lifelike colors. A motion-adaptive 3-D Y/C digital comb filter cuts down on dot crawl and hanging dots, and the light sensors automatically adjust the picture's brightness to match conditions in the room.
The internal audio system is rated at 8 watts of output per channel, which is very respectable for a TV of this size, and options include simulated surround sound. Other handy features include video input labeling, parental V-chip controls and an adjustable sleep timer.
You would think an LCD TV of this size would naturally double as a computer monitor, but the TC-23LX60 strangely omits a PC input. Nevertheless, the TC-23LX60 does offer a good selection of connection options, including two composite video inputs, two S-video inputs, a component video input, an HDMI digital-to-digital input and a composite video output, as well as a headphone jack. The included remote control is refreshingly simple to use, although it does not have universal functions.
If you are shopping for an integrated HDTV or a model that can serve double-duty as a computer monitor, keep looking. On the other hand, if you desire a small LCD TV that supports HD display and comes at a moderate price, consider the Panasonic TC-23LX60.
