Panasonic SC-HT730 home theater system
Date Published: 1/8/08
The Panasonic SC-HT730 is a powerful home theater system at a price that can't be beat, and it uses speakers that are much larger than those included with most systems in this price range.
The SC-HT730 is an 800-watt system, complete with a five-disc DVD changer compatible with DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-RAM/R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, VCD, SVCD, and HighMAT, MP3, WMA and JPEG files stored on disc. There is built-in processing for Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. This is a progressive scan system, with 480i and 480p component video outputs, along with S-video and composite outputs.
The 800 watts of total power is divided with 70 watts going to each of the front channels, 260 watts to the center channel, 70 watts to each surround channel, and 260 watts to the subwoofer. The two-way front speakers come with floor pedestals and have a single midrange driver and a single tweeter. To enhance dialogue, the center channel speaker uses a pair of midrange drivers. The surrounds each have a single full-range driver, and they can be used with an optional wireless system, requiring only an AC power connection. The subwoofer, which uses a pair of 5-inch drivers in a bass reflex cabinet, provides a very tight sound that is unfortunately lacking in very deep bass. Despite this, the Panasonic SC-HT730 is a competent system that proves to be a very good value.
