Panasonic SA-XR70 A/V receiver

Date Published: 1/8/08

Once upon a time, A/V receivers had to be big, ugly black boxes if you wanted them to be powerful. Well, that time is gone, thanks to the Panasonic SA-XR70 A/V receiver. This very slim and compact home theater component delivers an impressive 100 watts into six channels using an efficient digital amplifier, but that's just the beginning of this fairy tale.

The SA-XR70 features HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connectivity for high-definition sources (up to 1,080p). This allows you to use this one receiver to connect all of your audio and video sources. The bandwidth of the digital amplifier extends up to 100kHz, making the SA-XR70 ideal for use with either of today's high-resolution audio formats--DVD-Audio or SACD. The SA-XR70 has Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS 96/24, DTS-ES, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoding built in. You can use the A/B Speaker selector to wire up two sets of speakers, such as one for listening to music and another that matches your surround speakers for movie viewing.

Although this is a slim component, the rear panel has a broad selection of inputs and outputs, including a six-channel input for DVD-Audio and SACD, five analog audio inputs, two audio outputs, four digital audio inputs (two optical and two coaxial) one optical digital output, eight video inputs, and three video outputs, in addition to component video inputs and outputs. For convenience, there is an S-video input on the front panel, along with a VCR output. You'll find that the SA-XR70 has many advanced features that will take you into the future of home audio and video.
