The PV-DF205 is an affordable triple-play Panasonic unit that combines a 20-inch TV with a DVD player and a four-head VCR.

The silver cabinet includes stereo speakers on either side of the screen, with the DVD tray and video slot below the screen, along with control buttons, audio/video inputs, and a headphone jack.

The stereo speakers produce a total of 6 watts of audio output, and they can simulate surround sound. The DVD player has a locking tray and a host of features including multispeed slow motion and fast-forward, plus access to alternate audio, subtitles, and different camera angles. The VCR can display a picture while scanning forward, and up to eight programs can be set for recording up to one month in advance.

Other convenience features include an adjustable sleep timer, an automatic on-timer, closed captions, mute, and presets to change the video settings for night viewing or movies.

In addition to the front inputs, a second audio/video input is located on the rear of the cabinet, along with an RF input and analog and optical digital audio outputs. The small remote control has a button for skipping over commercials on videotape by advancing in 1-minute increments.

The picture of the Panasonic PV-DF205 has lifelike colors and sharp edges, helped along by a 2-line digital comb filter that eliminates dot crawl and rainbow effects. The picture tube is flat, ensuring a distortion-free image that looks good from corner to corner.
