Panasonic PT-60LC14 60-inch TV

Date Published: 10/26/07

Panasonic's 60-inch PT-60LC14 has a wide-format LCD rear-projection screen that can handle high-definition and computer content with style. The silver cabinet is well designed to fit on a table or countertop, with speakers on either side of the screen and built-in memory card slots and controls on the front panel. Easy-access inputs, including PC and audio/video/S-video, are comfortably within reach on the unit's side.

Progressive scan doubling provides a very sharp, detailed picture from analog signals, and high-definition signals from a separate HD receiver can be displayed at 480p, 720p, or 1,080i. Horizontal and vertical edge correction ensures crispness throughout, and a motion-adaptive 3-D Y/C digital comb filter removes dot crawl and rainbow effects. The screen is coated to reduce glare, and it is bright enough to stand up to a range of light conditions. Movies can be viewed using 3:2 pulldown conversion, which eliminates the uneven action that can develop when films are viewed on video.

The four speakers produce 30 total watts of audio output, and they can be set to simulate surround sound. Automatic volume control can be activated to eliminate sudden loud bursts during commercials and channel changes. Twin NTSC tuners deliver two side-by-side images for split-screen viewing. Other convenience features include closed captions on mute, channel and video input labeling, a choice of three picture presets for quick adjustments, an adjustable sleep timer, and a JPEG photo viewer with zoom function that can display images in a slide show or single-picture format. The memory card slots will accommodate SD and PCMCIA cards.

The PT-60LC14 is well equipped to interact with a full range of audio/video components, as the rear panel contains an HDMI interface, four component video inputs, two audio/video inputs, two S-video inputs, and a PC input with audio, along with an audio/video output. No CableCARD slot is provided, so a separate cable box is required for digital cable signals. The universal remote control has a disc controller, and six component buttons provide direct control of additional devices.
