Panasonic's PT-44LCX65 combines a 44-inch HDTV with twin-tuner picture-in-picture functionality, PC compatibility, and CableCARD readiness, creating a capable and versatile home theater centerpiece.

The attractive and relatively slim (less than 15 inches in depth) LCD rear-projection monitor is framed in black, and the cabinet includes four speakers.

The wide-format screen uses progressive scan doubling to deliver a native resolution of 1,280X720 for a lively and sharply defined image, and the brightness and contrast are up to the task of displaying HD content. Computer content displays at the VGA, SVGA, or XGA level. With an extra-wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, the PT-44LCX65 can be watched from just about anywhere in a room.

The internal stereo system produces an impressive 30 watts of audio output, with controls for bass, treble, and balance, as well as simulated surround sound. With its twin tuners, the PT-44LCX65 does not need a second video source to enable a variety of PIP functions.

Other convenience features include memory for three picture settings for each video input, an adjustable sleep timer, and parental controls that include input locks and V-chip limitations. An SD memory card slot makes it easy to view digital photos, while front-panel audio/video/S-video and RGB PC inputs are also provided. The rear of the PT-44LCX65 has two additional audio/video/S-video inputs, three component video inputs, an HDMI input, and an audio/video output. The remote control is a universal model that has an illuminated disc controller and provides direct access to video inputs.
