Panasonic DVD-S97
Date Published: 11/4/04
The DVD-S97 is very similar to Panasonic's DVD-S47 player, but it comes with several significant advantages. For example, the DVD-S97 has built-in DVD-Audio playback, with a six-channel analog output for use with a compatible receiver. More importantly, the DVD-S97 features an integrated high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connection. This digital interface connects to similarly equipped receiver to transfer digital audio and video signals, eliminating the need for digital-to-analog decoders. The DVD-S97 also has an optical digital output for Dolby Digital and DTS surround signals. As you would expect on a player of this caliber, the DVD-S97 has a progressive scan output for connection to a digital television. As with many Panasonic DVD players, the DVD-S97 has a cinema mode to increase picture clarity and a dialogue enhancer that lets you turn down the overall volume level while maintaining the output of the center channel, which contains most movie dialogue. The player also uses a very nice-looking, high-speed scan that makes it easy to view video while fast-forwarding or reversing. As an early adopter of HDMI connectivity, the DVD-S97 is a cutting-edge DVD-Audio/Video player.
